Cracked wall. Fast footsteps. Faces passing each other like strangers trained not to notice pain. Wind moved wrappers along the curb while city noise echoed between buildings.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-4\">\n<div id=\"nextpart.fun_responsive_2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Then the door slammed open.<\/p>\n<p>Heads turned for half a second\u2014then kept moving.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\">\n<div id=\"nextpart.fun_responsive_3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Curled against the wall sat a small boy in torn clothes, knees to his chest, pale hands trembling from hunger. His face was thin, eyes red from crying, trying to disappear where everyone could see him.<\/p>\n<p>No one stopped.<\/p>\n<p>A businessman stepped around him.<br \/>\nA woman glanced once and looked away.<br \/>\nTwo teenagers laughed as they passed.<\/p>\n<p>Then another boy ran into frame.<\/p>\n<p>Same age. Eight years old. Clean camel coat. Polished shoes. Warm cheeks untouched by the cold. Then, without embarrassment or fear, he leaned forward and hugged him tightly right there on the frozen pavement.<\/p>\n<p>The poor boy broke instantly. Tears spilled down his face as he buried himself in the embrace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re safe now,\u201d the rich boy said softly.<\/p>\n<p>Soft piano rose under the wind.<\/p>\n<p>Then heels struck the sidewalk fast.<\/p>\n<p>A woman rushed out from the building behind them\u2014elegant coat, expensive bag, panic in every breath.<\/p>\n<p>When she saw her son hugging the street child, terror flashed across her face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo! Get away from him!\u201d she shouted.<\/p>\n<p>The rich boy looked up, confused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut Mommy\u2026 he\u2019s cold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She marched closer, reaching for her son\u2014then stopped so suddenly her heel scraped the concrete.<\/p>\n<p>Her eyes locked on the hungry boy\u2019s face.<\/p>\n<p>The shape of his nose.<br \/>\nThe scar above his eyebrow.<br \/>\nThe small silver chain at his neck.<\/p>\n<p>Her hand rose slowly to her mouth.<\/p>\n<p>The starving boy looked up through tears, studying her like a memory fighting to return.<\/p>\n<p>Then he whispered one word.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everything around them seemed to disappear.<\/p>\n<p>Her knees buckled.
